Help Haiti Get Clean Water

Even before the earthquake in January 2010, contaminated water was already the leading cause of infant mortality and illness in children.

Haiti now has the highest infant mortality rate in the western hemisphere. The Pan-American Health Organization (PAHO) reported that more than half of all deaths in Haiti were due to water-borne gastro-intestinal diseases. The earthquake made matters worse by destroying or damaging 87 out of 100 public water stations in Port-au-Prince – UNICEF reports that LESS than 60% of Haitians displaced by the quake are getting clean, safe water.

Without these sources of clean, safe water germs for hepatitis, cholera, and chronic diarrhea are carried in water used for cooking and drinking.

When the words “donation Haiti” enter your mind please help International Action deliver clean, safe drinking water to the children of Haiti

Nearly every water source in Haiti has become contaminated with human waste because of the absence of a sewage sanitation system.

In 1990, The US Army Corps of Engineers said of Port-au-Prince, “Epidemics including malaria, typhoid, chronic diarrhea, and intestinal infections are caused by water contaminated by rubbish and fecal matter.”

Haiti remains the poorest country in the western hemisphere, with a staggering unemployment rate above 70% and approximately 75% living in poverty. A lack of clean water not only kills infants, children and the elderly it also is a major obstacle to the economic development & reconstruction so vital for Haiti’s future because healthy adults are left to care for the sick instead of contributing to the rebuilding and development of Haiti.

You can stop deadly typhoid, cholera, and chronic diarrhea by working with International Action.

So far, the Campaign for Clean Water in Haiti has brought clean water to 400,000 people. Donate to Haiti today to get clean water to the children & families suffering from unnecessary disease from water-borne contaminants.
