Mrs. Jones’ Interview about Claiming His Benefits
Sitting on a bench outside the office of a benefit inspector, Mrs. Jones was idly circling his thumbs as she waited for his turn with the benefit inspector. She had been invited by a person named, Mr. Park, for an interview about his benefits. At first she was reluctant about going through the interview because she didn’t know what the letter meant about an interview and about her benefits. She knew she didn’t do anything wrong or even fake any. Distracted by her thoughts, the sudden opening of the door made her jump a little to her side and the secretary felt bad for starling her. “Mrs. Jones, please come in. Mr. Park is ready for you.”
Mrs. Jones hesitantly walked in the office and followed the secretary to Mr. Park. She flashed a small smile to Mr. Park before she sat down and greeted him a good morning. Without anything else, Mr. Park started with his interview. “Mrs. Jones, you know about benefit fraud cases that take place almost every week…” Mrs. Jones nodded and acknowledged she read them in daily newspapers, “We don’t want one do we?” Mrs. Jones was now confused and she asked what he meant. “It’s not you Mrs. Jones, it is your husband. He didn’t show up for his interview and it seems he had something to hide.” Mrs. Jones protested and told Mr. Park that her husband is honest with his status upon claiming his benefits. Mr. Park stated that Mr. Jones had been claiming his benefits but is providing false details. He was proved to be claiming for single parent benefits while he is really married and is living with his wife.
Mrs. Jones took hold of the papers and read everything. She couldn’t believe her husband was doing this behind her back. She knew it was wrong and unforgivable without any punishment. She agreed to help Mr. Park upon taking her husband to him. With this, she left and went home. Her nervousness was not there anymore but was replaced with anger and disappointment.
